The first edition of the State Meeting of Music School Directors took place in Popayan in April 2023 with a large attendance. One particular highlight of the event was offering masterclasses for children and youth aged 6 to 14, conducted by renowned teachers from the Rojas School of Music.
The violin and viola masterclass was led by Dr. Molly Hines, a violin master, with the active participation of 31 students. These students were selected to present musical pieces to receive feedback, advice, guidance, study techniques, and other tools shared with all participants. It is worth noting that the violin is one of the most popular string instruments in various music schools, which explained the massive turnout.
The cello masterclass was directed by Maestro Colin Horton, who welcomed 6 cello students eager to learn different theoretical and practical techniques and other musical contributions provided by Maestro Horton. The students demonstrated remarkable skills acquired from their academies, which greatly contributed to the class’s development.
Finally, the piano masterclass was led by the distinguished American pianist, Sarah Bryan, who worked with 10 piano students from different music schools. The participants showcased a high level of classical piano interpretation and received highly insightful musical inputs that were effectively applied throughout the class.
It is also worth highlighting the attendance of the student’s teachers and parents, who expressed their gratitude for the provision of these free academic spaces for the students.
