Symphonic Week

In 2023, Symphonic Week was born — a free event that brought together over 430 artists to celebrate the rich musical diversity of Cauca. With 11 open-air concerts, music workshops, and a special cultural program, this vibrant celebration filled Popayán’s plazas, churches, and shopping malls with music.

Organized by the Popayán City Hall and the Festival of Religious Music Corporation, the event was part of the national campaign “Celebrate Music” and featured bands from 10 different towns across Cauca. One of the most memorable moments was the performance by the National Symphonic Band of Colombia at the Arcada de la Herrería.

Beyond the concerts, Symphonic Week included an orchestral residency led by Maestro René Ordóñez, where young musicians worked in a full symphonic format. The event also offered professional workshops to help participants improve their technique and included sessions on cultural management, social media, and leadership.

This celebration showed how music can bring people together, empower young talent, and create real change. Symphonic Week made a lasting impact, strengthening local art, cultural identity, and pride in being part of Cauca.
