Acknowledgements
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the OAS highlighted it in its magazine Música, which was reviewed in the Musical Catalog of the Americas. For this date, the Ministry of Communication and the Postal Administration of Colombia were linked with an issue entitled “Partitura de Hermandad” (“Score of Brotherhood”), a title that has become the slogan of the event.
In 2003, with Decree No. 68, the City Council declared it to be the Intangible Heritage of the City and awarded it the SHIELD OF THE VERY NOBLE AND VERY LOYAL CITY OF POPAYAN in the highest heraldic category, the GREAT GOLDEN CROSS.
In 2004 it was declared National Heritage by Law 891 of the Congress of the Republic.
In 2013, the Popayán International Music Festival became the only event of its kind in the Americas to hold 50 consecutive editions. On this occasion, the Ministry of Culture awarded it its highest distinction, the “Gran Orden Ministerio de Cultura”.
On the occasion of its 60th anniversary, the Universidad del Cauca has honored the Festival with a Dean’s resolution recognizing its leadership in uniting the community around music and promoting culture and tradition in the region.
